This masterclass is designed for HR professionals, D&I managers, CEOs, and other professionals who wish to deepen their understanding of diversity and inclusion.

Programme

The Diversity & Inclusion programme includes 8 sessions across four chapters: exploring D&I theory, building a diverse culture, practical implementation, and concluding with participants presenting their plans and business cases. Key topics cover biases, social exclusion, inclusive communication, and strategies for diverse talent attraction and retention. Highlights include insights from Harvard Business Review authors Brad Johnson and David Smith, best practices from organizations like Warner Bros, IBM, and Deutsche Telekom, and features like guest lectures, gamification, and personalized coaching to align strategies with organizational goals.

  • Session 1 | Part 1: Psychological theories in biases

    Professor in Emotion and Affective Processes Agneta Fischer

    In this first session, Prof. Agneta Fischer will explain and discuss psychological theories on biases. She will take you to the literature on the origin of cognitive biases, how they are an integral part of our cognitive functioning, what implicit biases are, why some people may be more biased than others, the relation between bias and prejudice, and what factors reduce biased thinking. She will use different examples, such as sexism, racism, but also more subtle forms of biases.

  • Session 1 | Part 2: D&I Strategy Essentials

    Wendy Broersen, founder Superpeople academy, D&I consultant, programme manager of this programme

    Writing a strategy is not creating change. For that you need actions and/or nudges, backed-up and sponsored by management. In this lecture we are highlighting a wide variety of actions and nudges, best practices we can all learn from. How to find budget? What are the success factors? What do you need to make an action go viral to get the most effect out of your efforts? And how do you spread successful actions throughout your organisation? Getting your stakeholders into action and setting your goals. Everything you need to really get started.

  • Session 2 | Part 1: How to limit the pains and stimulate the gains of working with different others

    Gian-Louis Hernandez is a lecturer and postdoctoral researcher at the University of Amsterdam. He holds a PhD in Communication Science from Universita della Svizzera italiana (USI)

    Gian-Louis will explain how creating a feeling of shared impact of all different groups in the organisation can stimulate minorities to aspire to leadership roles and as such work against the phenomenon known as diversity’s revolving door. He will discuss shared impact within the larger insights on diversity ideologies in organisations (such as awareness vs. blindness approaches, meritocracy, and combinations of these organisational outlooks on diversity). By means of examples and actionable interventions, he will discuss and illuminate how organisations can create the experience of shared impact for all their employees, and how this will not only motivate happy workers but also stimulate the rise of women, ethnic minorities, and others who tend to be excluded from leadership positions.

  • Session 2 | Part 2: The ups and downs on Age biases

    By Dr. Caroline van Dullemen, University lecturer on ageing, Author of The Politics of ageing

    Caroline van Dullemen will talk about the ageing of your employees and how this possibly threatens your organisation. Facebook-founder Mark Zuckerberg once said he could not learn anything from someone over thirty. Tough luck; ageing is proceeding at an unprecedented speed. International organisations and national governments prepare, anticipate and try to mitigate the negative consequences of an ageing society, including policies against age discrimination and pro diversity. This lecture will address academic research and debates as well as various operational challenges. Best practice inclusion policies are also included.

  • Session 3 | How to build an Inclusive company culture - Initiating Change

    How can you create an inclusive culture? What is needed from management and from all employees? What action can you take? What activities can you plan? This lecture will share insides on organisational structures and how to initiate change

    Sylvia Etter, AVP IHR at AT&T, DACH, Country Director of the Superpeople Academy and an international keynote speaker on Diversity & Inclusion, Leadership Development and International HR.

    Why create separate groups for minority groups (ERG’S)? What is their use? All inclusive companies have ERG’s, why haven’t you created one? Should you create them? How can you utilize them for your D&I strategy?

    Ginger Chien is an open-mic storyteller, 80’s cover band keyboard player, diversity and inclusion speaker, and cell phone engineer

    In this session, Ginger Chien will discuss the gap between practical D&I best practices and successful inclusive spaces from her personal perspective as a transgender woman who transitioned on the job. She will examine the critical skills of self-awareness, emotional intelligence, empathy, and how mastering these in a genuine way avoids the lost opportunities resulting from less effective “performative” execution. She will describe some underlying psychological and social forces that impede D&I efforts as learned from her experience as a workshop leader and the opportunity to leverage the energy of universal values in your D&I efforts.

  • Session 4 | The effect of social exclusion

    Prof. Agneta Fischer Dean, of the Faculty of Social and Behavioral
    Sciences, UvA & Professor in Emotion and Affective Processes


    Professor Fisher will address the effects of social exclusion on the well-being of individuals, and the different forms social exclusion can take, ranging from explicitly being bullied to feeling that you are not one of the boys/girls. How is it possible to combat both these implicit and explicit forms of social exclusion?

  • Session 5 | Part 1: Inclusive recruitment: How to attract a diverse workforce?

    Jochen Etter is Managing Director, Etter & Partner, specialised in Executive Search exclusively for the beverage industry

    Jochen Etter will touch on some overall Diversity Management aspects that are critical to make Diversity a success factor by creating a culture of inclusion and belonging. The focus of his session will be on the end-to-end value chain of the recruitment process starting with employer branding up to a successful onboarding process. He will provide interesting insights from an Executive Search and recruitment perspective into the topic of Diversity & Inclusion. What are candidates from a diverse background looking for when selecting a company and why are they leaving it again? What opportunities do companies have to create superior experiences for the candidates to attract them to your organisation and create employee loyalty?

  • Session 5 | Part 2: Nurturing Diverse talents

    Dagmar Pithan, HR executive leadership Deutsche Telekom AG - responsible for a global sales unit as well as in support, consulting and implementation of strategic business transformation projects and restructuring.

    Dagmar will discuss the value of developing a uniform global job architecture based on current and future skills, in order to derive a team with the appropriate future-oriented qualifications (software developer, IT architects ...), was also one of her projects.
    The role of digitization, networking, diverse and inclusive teams with people with different backgrounds to build the future proof workforce will be discussed.

  • Session 6 | Mitigating biases in processes

    Carolin Ossenkop PhD works as an independent consultant on diversity and as an adjunct lecturer at the Nijmegen School of Management at Radboud University Nijmegen

    Carolin looks for opportunities to better align organisational policies and practices with actual needs and experiences of a diverse workforce. Academic insights and experiential learning are main components of her method and provides for both for-profit and non-for-profit/governmental organisation on topics related to diversity in organisations.

  • Session 7 | Building a platform: How to involve men and engage male allies?

    Robert Baker CEO, Potentia Talent Consulting Limited, Trustee of One Loud Voice for Women and an Advisory Board Member of the Sister Sister Global Network. Visiting Lecturer on Diversity & Inclusion on the Global MBA Programme at EDHEC Business School in Nice, France.

    As gender in the workplace expert Robert Baker will show in this lecture, men have a profound opportunity to promote gender equality at work. This lecture will provide you with a research-based and practical guide on how to engage male allies in the workplace. Filled with first-hand accounts from both men and women and tips on how to get started, this lecture shows you how men can partner with women to advance women’s leadership by breaking ingrained gender stereotypes, overcoming unconscious biases, developing and supporting the talented women around them, and creating productive working relationships.

  • Session 8 | Neurodiversity

    Prof. Amanda Kirby CEO of Do-IT Solutions, Campaigner for Neurodiversity, Medic, Knowledge Translator, researcher and D&I judge

    Professor Kirby talks about Neurodiversity. A variation in the brain regarding sociability, learning, attention, mood and other mental functions in a non-pathological sense (f.e. autism). It raises challenges for management but it’s worth looking into since roughly 20% of all people have that variation, sometimes even without knowing it.

  • Session 9 part 1: How do you develop and manage diverse employees?

    On how to enable employees to meet and manage diversity and interactive demands by identifying, assessing, cultivating, and supplementing their proficiencies.
