How to apply

Applications will be assessed throughout the year on a rolling basis, so interested candidates are encouraged to submit an application as soon as possible. Payment must be submitted within one week of receiving an acceptance letter and confirms your attendance in the programme, registering your place. Please follow the application steps below based on what sort of applicant you are. 

Final date to apply: 1 June 2023

  • Applicants who apply by the final deadline will receive an admissions decision within a week. 
  • Payment must be submitted within 48 hours of receiving an acceptance letter.

  • For internal applicants entering a UvA Master programme

    Please have the following supporting documents ready (in PDF) to upload to the online application form at the link listed above, and select the appropriate programme from the dropdown menu:

    • A scan of your passport
    • A copy of your transcripts/list of courses taken and grades achieved
    • An up-to-date copy of your CV/Resume
    • A copy of your acceptance letter from the University of Amsterdam, stating that you are advised to take the Social Science Switch as part of admission to a GSSS Master programme. Note: please attach this instead of a letter of motivation in the application portal.
    • Pay the non-refundable €25 application fee by credit card. 
  • For all other applicants

    Please have the following supporting documents ready (in PDF) to upload to the online application form at the link listed above, and select the appropriate programme from the dropdown menu:

    • A scan of your passport
    • A copy of your transcripts/list of courses taken and grades achieved
    • An up-to-date copy of your CV/Resume
    • A letter of motivation of approximately 400 – 500 words stating your commitment and curiosity about the concepts social sciences can offer your research/work, and the importance of an interdisciplinary approach when studying the role of these concepts in different social and cultural contexts. Explain why you wish to participate, what you hope to learn, and your relevant educational and/or professional experience in the field of study. Note: this is the most important part of your application.
    • Pay the non-refundable €25 application fee by credit card.
